Many people believe that Apple’s range of computers such as the iMac for example are the very best available. If you do, I beg to differ. Many people do not really know a lot about Mac’s as some information on the Apple website or even on Apple’s range of television adverts can be a little misleading..
Read on to see through the shiny aluminum plating that surrounds the Mac and learn about what lurks in the deepest darkest recesses of ‘the best’ computer.
Bold – Apple’s Statement
“It Just Works”
Okay, from a well respected and professional company, this is the best that can be said? “It Just Works” ? Okay, fair enough, mistakes are made but what cannot be forgiven is the fact that Mac’s have a higher crash rate than windows, simply because the OS operating system has been poorly developed. Some of the Mac adverts explain that users of Mac’s say they are very satisfied with their computer, this has been said by a representative of Apple and not byan everyday person who owns a Mac.
“You Can Run Windows”
Wrong, Apple has created a new program called BootCamp that simulates Windows Vista but this basically only applies to the look of the Mac and not the features. Features that include opening windows file formats that take over around 87% of the internet are not included in this ‘upgrade’. Not only this, but apart from having to cope with the price tag that comes with the Mac, you have to pay for BootCamp !
“Macs Run Microsoft Office”
Apple spends thousands upon thousands of dollars every year promoting their adverts and such, so a lot of money was spent on adding to the short list of why to buy a Mac that it runs Microsoft Office. This is not special at all ! This only shows that Apple has struggled so much in the competition against windows that it is now bootlegging it’s products and using it as their own, why would this encourage me to buy a Mac if i can get Microsoft Office and a windows PC for half the price of a Mac.
“Design That Turns Heads”
Okay I have to confess, Mac’s are about as stylish as it gets and it would certainly be a valid discussion piece if you have guests at your house but there is a problem again.. Apple has dedicated so much of it’s time to looking good that it does not feel good. The keyboard and mouse of a Mac for example, the mouse is small and rounded, it seldom fits the average shape of a normal hand which is uncomfortable and can after prolonged use increase chances of hand arthritis. The keyboard of the Mac is very flat and the keys are very close to the keyboard in comparison to a windows keyboard, this makes the keyboard feel harder and it also increases the chances of the keyboard getting stuck say for example if something sticky was spilled on the keyboard.
“No Hunting For Drivers”
Apple has recently issued a statement saying that firewalls and USB memory sticks can be installed without having to install drivers as well. This is the same as Windows, except Windows fixed this five years ago at the release of Windows XP.
“Instant Video Chats”
Very recently Mac has stated that live video chats are now available to Mac users. Windows has had this feature available for almost 10 years with programs such as MSN, Yahoo Messenger and so on.
“You Can Take It With You”
Another one of Apple’s recent statements has said that the most popular applications for both a Mac and a PC use the same file formats making it simple to transfer them to a PC and vice versa or to a friend who is using Windows.
Wrong, 97% of all Mac file formats are incompatible with Windows and vice verse again. Only the most basic formats such as the word processing format or the internet browser for example are compatible with both a Mac and a PC.
“115,000 Viruses? Not On A Mac”
Apple says that their OS is based on the operating system, UNIX, and so it is more secure. But as proved from the research of a Mac fanatics, Apple cannot make their OS from scratch unlike Windows and so they replicated the basic concept of FreeBSD and basically made it look better. Mac also has a very limited selection fo Antivirus tools as apose to Windows which has a vast collection that are ready for use and can prevent 99.9% of viruses that may try to damage a Windows computer.
“More Fun With Photos”
Apple has released a new program called iPhotos which they have said will revolutionize the way we look at photos, windows reached this stage of photo editing years ago, Paint and Photoshop for example.
“Hollywood Style Movies”
Apple seems to have came to the conclusion that they have revolutionized the tools needed for editing movies and images, burning CDs & DVDs and listening to music. Again, Windows reached these stages many years ago and it has taken some time for Apple to catch up.
